KEY MOMENT: A seventh-inning infield single by Andre Ethier moved the Dodgers in front, 3-2. But the Brewers reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the inning, as they turned the shaky play of substitute shortstop Justin Turner into four runs. Mark Reynolds was credited with a single on a sharply hit grounder that deflected off Turner's glove and went into center field. Reynold's hit advanced Rickie Weeks to third base and Weeks scored on a bunt by Martin Maldonado. Reynolds and Maldonado, who reached base on a fielder's choice, moved into scoring position when Turner made a fielding error on a grounder by Khris Davis. Reynolds scored when Turner made another error, this one an errant throw on a grounder by Carlos Gomez. A follow-up single by Gerardo Parra drove in two more runs. The Dodgers were down, 6-3.

ON THE MOUND: Roberto Hernandez, who was acquired from the Philadelphia Phillies the previous day, limited the Brewers to two runs and three hits over six innings. Hernandez retired the last 17 batters he faced and his pitch count was at only 65 when he left the game. With the Dodgers trailing, 2-1, in the seventh inning, Manager Don Mattingly sent in Turner to pinch hit for Hernandez. Turner's leadoff single started a two-run inning for the Dodgers.

AT THE PLATE: Adrian Gonzalez was three for three with a walk and two runs batted in, as he hit a solo home run in the sixth inning and singled in Dee Gordon in the seventh. In the 20 games Gonzalez has played since the All-Star break, he is batting .333 with two home runs and 16 runs batted in. Gonzalez has 76 runs batted in, only one fewer than National League leader Giancarlo Stanton.

ROSTER MOVE: Josh Beckett was officially placed on the 15-day disabled list. The Dodgers announced an MRI exam the previous day revealed a "recurrence of his left hip impingement," as well as a strain of his left groin. Beckett has a torn labrum in his hip, which could require a season-ending operation. For now, the plan is for Beckett to rest for 10 days to two weeks before determining the next course of action. Manager Don Mattingly said he expects Beckett to return. "I anticipate he will be able to pitch again this year," Mattingly said.

EXTRA BASES: Yasiel Puig was hitless in four at-bats but still managed to do something incredible: He broke his bat on a checked swing. Puig stopped his swing on a 2-1 sinker from Zack Duke in the seventh inning, causing the bat to break at the handle.

UP NEXT: Zack Greinke (12-7, 2.71 earned-run average) will face Mike Fiers (0-1, 2.57) and the Brewers at Miller Park on Thursday at 5 p.m. PDT. On the air: TV: SportsNet LA. Radio: 570, 1020.
